Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19 wearing a tan Chloé suit and matching beige pumps at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Harris left the navy blue and grays behind and opted for a light-color power suit for perhaps one of the most important moments in her career.
She wore an outfit designed by creative director Chemena Kamali, which consisted of a custom grain de poudre wool suit in a shade of light brown in addition to a white crepe de chine lavaliere blouse. Her pants were tailored in a wide-leg design while her jacket featured a classic lapel.
Harris completed the look with a pair of beige pumps, seemingly a go-to pair she has worn before. Crafted in a shade of beige that perfectly matched her bespoke suit, the heels were constructed with the traditional silhouette of a pump — or court shoe — with an arched sole, narrow heel and pointed toe that sharpened the ensemble. The leather offered her a soft shine and contributed to the overall refined aesthetic of her outfit.

Harris has previously worn tan pumps with a light blue pantsuit, a light beige pantsuit and other variations of her signature outfit. The shoes blend easily with apparel across the color spectrum and make a subtle statement symbolizing elegance and power. Styles similar to Harris’ are offered by Alexandre Birman, Manolo Blahnik and more luxury brands.
Of course, when Harris isn’t wearing pumps, she’s known to keep it casual in a pair of Converse — she wore a platform pair the day before the DNC commenced.
The first day of the DNC included a speech from President Joe Biden in which he reflected upon his long career in politics and passed the torch to Harris. Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff shared the stage with the Biden family as gratitude was expressed to the current president.
While Harris wore a neutral-toned outfit, First Lady Jill Biden slipped on sparkling silver pumps to go with a shimmering blue dress as she celebrated her husband’s career and looked toward the future of the Democratic party.
The 2024 DNC runs from Aug. 19-Aug. 22.
